10 COMMANDMENTS FOR YOUR RESCUE DOG!
1 Thou shalt not feed me before you have eaten, you are my Leader, and therefore you should always eat first. Definitely do not feed me from your table; I have my own bowl and my own food!

2 Thou shalt respect my ‘space’, I need my own ‘Den’, somewhere quiet and comfortable to relax and feel safe, preferably somewhere where I can stretch out in the sunshine!

3 Thou shalt promise to exercise me, I want to be healthy and happy, and be able to run like the wind until my tongue hangs out, and I need a nice long drink of cool water!

4 Thou shalt promise to learn how to train me, with the help of a professional person, so that I can learn to behave appropriately in public places. I want to honor and obey you; I just need to know how!

5 Thou shalt give me my own identity by getting me microchipped. I need a collar and identity tag, which I need to wear at all times, so it is impossible for me to become lost and alone. Being alone in a human world is very frightening!

6 Thou shalt promise to play with me, talk to me, and include me in your life. I want to learn to interact with people in a positive and friendly way, I love to learn new things and I am very intelligent, Try me!

7 Thou shalt promise to let me see my own friends, it is important that I can communicate, and interact with someone that speaks my language, doggie coffee mornings are always a good idea, and doggy sleep overs for my friends, helps me to remember that I am a dog and not a human!

8 Thou shalt not smack or shout at me, I cannot smack you back, but I can bite when frightened or in pain. I am sensitive and will wag my tail in response to praise and encouragement. I don’t always understand the human language, so be patient and consistent!

9 Thou shalt promise to never leave me alone for long periods, you are very important to me, I only have you, and when we are separated I get very frustrated, anxious and worried. Remember, that I can’t use the phone to chat to my friends or go shopping to cheer me up when I am down, You are my Life!

10 Finally, Thou shalt promise to love, honour, and care for me until I reach a grand old age. When it is time for me to go, you must promise to hold my paw and stay with me till the end. Remember all the good times, and smile when you think of me, I loved you very much, and will always be grateful to you for giving me a second chance in life.
