Set in village suroundings on the edge of the countryside, Deerness Kennels have 21 years' experience of looking after animals. We strongly recommend viewing of our boarding kennels, or why not have your dog try a couple of nights' stay to make sure your pet is happy before long stays.

Our boarding kennels have central heated pens and tiled floors with raised beds. All kennels have outside runs. The dogs are walked twice every day in our four paddocked areas.

We have a vet on site on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons for an hour or two. We can also contact your own vet if you wish.

  • All animals are kept seperate unless from the same family.

  • Special diets and medication can be given.

  • You can bring your pets favourite toy or bed, although we do provide bedding.

  • Daily boarding is available.

All animals arriving at the kennels for boarding must have a current vaccination certificate. This is to protect your pet as well as others. Your vet will explain these vaccinations to you but generally it is an initial course of two injections followed by a yearly booster. Modern vaccines give immunity against diseases such as Parvovirus, Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis (DHL) in dogs, and against Flu and Enteritis.

The term 'Kennel Cough' is unfair and implies that the disease comes from Kennels, but dogs are just as likely to be infected at shows and training classes even at the park, beach or woodlands. Dogs become infected from other coughing dogs, by breathing in infected airborne particles in a manner similar to the way human colds or influenza are spread. At the moment the only effective way to protect against kennel cough caused by Bordetella Bronchiseptica, (the major cause of Infectious Bronchitis), is Intrac or Nobivac
vaccination. Vaccination against kennel cough is a mandatory requirement for boarding at the Kennels. There are vaccines available which protect against some of the other causes of Kennel Cough. For further advice about vaccinations please consult your veterinary surgeon.
